Before the domain

No domain yet? Start writing today.

Every Folio account comes with an instant address that sends and receives the moment you sign up — no DNS, nothing to wait for. Start there. Buy a domain when you're ready, then add it: Folio writes out every record and checks them for you as they go live.

When you're ready

Buying a domain, in three steps.

Any registrar works with Folio. These three are straightforward, sell at fair prices, and none of them makes you buy an email plan alongside.

  1. Cloudflare Registrar

Sells domains at cost — no markup on registration or renewal. DNS stays at Cloudflare, where Folio can publish every record from one pasted token.

    1. Create a free Cloudflare account.
    2. Open Domain Registration → Register Domains, search, and check out.
    3. Come back to Folio and add the domain.
    Go to Cloudflare Registrar ↗
  2. Porkbun

Low, plainly listed prices with WHOIS privacy included. You paste Folio's records into its DNS editor; the setup page has a Porkbun guide.

    1. Search for the name on porkbun.com and add it to the cart.
    2. Check out and create the account in one step.
    3. Come back to Folio and add the domain.
    Go to Porkbun ↗
  3. Namecheap

The familiar choice, with WHOIS privacy included. Check the renewal price before you buy — first-year offers are often lower.

    1. Search for the name on namecheap.com and add it to the cart.
    2. Check out; leave the default BasicDNS nameservers as they are.
    3. Come back to Folio and add the domain.
    Go to Namecheap ↗

Then

Come back and add it — Folio sets up the records.

Type the domain in, and the setup page names your DNS host, lists each record with a copy button, and turns green as they resolve. At Cloudflare, Route 53 and GoDaddy it can publish them for you. Your instant address keeps working throughout.
